Cycle 4 Change 2018

The ‘Cycle 4 Change’ team rode more than 500 kilometres around central northern Tasmania and raised over $56,000 for Southern Cross Kids Camps, an organisation that provides camps and a ‘week of happy memories’ for kids who have been subjected to abuse and neglect. Based in Launceston, the team cycled to a diverse range of locations including Beauty Point, Scottsdale, Ben Lomond and Lilydale. Scroll down for details of each day of riding and photos.

We were aiming to raise $50,000 for Southern Cross Kids Camps – enough to cover two full camps. After a massive effort from our team, sponsors and supporters, we raised $56,247.71. Well done to all involved!

Meet the Team

Peter Lusk

I want to be part of Cycle4Change’s 2018 ride, because it will change kids’ lives. Every child is valuable and deserves to live an outstanding life. Southern Cross helps kids most in need overcome adversity and have a great hope for the future. I want to be part of that!

Caleb McInnes

Steve Smith

I have a passion for getting out doors and having fun. I’ve been riding and competing in various cycling and triathlon events for over 25 years. Most of all I like pushing the limits, so endurance events are my favourite and encouraging people to get out there and have a go. That’s why I enjoy being involved with Cycle 4 Change, as it pushes people to do things they perhaps never thought possible. It also brings awareness to the fact that SCKC gives kids an opportunity to have fun and the knowledge that they can succeed in life.

Roger Brandford

Amy Thompson

I’m an electrical engineer and keen runner and cyclist. I love pushing myself to the limits, and I’m always up for a challenge. Cycle4Change is a great opportunity to take my cycling to the next level, not to mention raising money for a great cause as well. Southern Cross Kids’ Camps provides support to kids who need it most and it feels great to help make a difference in someone’s life.

Mark Campbell

I’m married to my wife Collette for 19 years with 4 kids. I have lived in sunny (and flat) Perth for the past 6 years. I’ve always enjoyed riding for recreation and sport. I chose to participate in Cycle 4 Change to help raise funds for abused or neglected kids who deserve more from life. They had no choice about the environment they are being raised in. My struggle around the Tasmanian countryside will not come close to the struggles these poor kids endure, but I hope my efforts will be able to change at least one kid’s life for the better.

Darian Rees-Lilley

I’ve been riding for as long as I can remember. Whether it be mountain bike trips as a kid or burning a path along the Yarra, cycling has always been a big part of my day-to-day. In March 2018 myself and 15 others will base ourselves in Launceston Tasmania and ride 500km, with over 7,000m of vertical elevation to support Southern Cross Kids’ Camps.

These camps give kids the chance to be kids; to know what it’s like to live carefree, if only for a little while. Let’s give these kids an opportunity to look back and remember that people cared about them.

Justin Charlot

I am a father to 5 children, Zachary, Katelyn, Xavier, Emily and Grace (aged 3 months up to 9 years old) with my wife Melissa. Passionate about all things sports and outdoors related, I look for new challenges and goals to keep active and fit – though the kids keep us very busy at the same time!

I jumped at the opportunity to participate in ‘Cycle 4 Change’ as is it a very worthy cause and something that can possibly inspire others to get involved in future, whether it is from a fundraising point of view or pushing yourself to achieve a goal.

Robin Stephenson

I always love a corporate sports event, having struggled through approx 10 corporate triathlons. I also have fond memories during high school completing 2 Great Victorian Bike rides. It’s about time I got my bike back on the road, and what better cause than Cycle4Change! Looking forward to it (despite the lack of training thus far).

Herb Donovan

Bicycle rider, bicycle mechanic, loves mountains and sunny days, owner of Fuel performance cycle service Melbourne. Super passionate about helping out kids in need.

If we can help make a difference in even one child’s life that gives them the confidence to build greater self-esteem and encouragement to learn and build a better way of life for themselves out of their current situation they might just end up changing the world!

Danielle Patten

Wesley Stephenson

My name is Wes Stephenson and am an electrical engineer, social cyclist and father of 3! I cycle for fun, fitness and the odd commute. Cycle4Change was brought to my attention by my workplace, who contribute to this worthy cause. When the opportunity came up to participate in an event that combined cycling and helping out some kids in need, I jumped at the chance.

Kevin Marley

I am the Business Development Manager at NHP, a sponsor of this event. The Cycle 4 change event provide a great opportunity to provide much needed funds and provide social awareness for the Southern Cross Kids Camp program. In addition to this the prospect of cycling 500K’s up hills over a 4 day period provides a great incentive to get out of bed early and get on the bike.
